In May 1962 she graduated from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Education. In 1966 Carolyn met Louis Meyer of Manistee Michigan and they were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids Michigan on July 22, 1967, and became mother to Louis’ children, Mark and Doug, from his previous wife who had passed away 2 years earlier. In March 1973 they bought a home in Glendale where she lived for the rest of her life. Carolyn had a short career teaching in Lutheran Schools before she was married, and after about 7 years as wife and mother started teaching again, this time in public schools. She first taught in kindergarten at Luke Elementary for a few years before moving on to teach at a school near 24th street and Harrison that has since been closed due to expansion of the airport. During this time she was attending classes and received her certification to teach special education. She then went on to be a special education teacher at Isaac Elementary and Joseph Zito Elementary until she retired in 2005.
