Please join us in honoring his memory with a Celebration of Life Service at 10 am on Friday, June 22nd, 2018, in the 4000 building at Christ Church of the Valley (CCV), 7007 W. Happy Valley Road with reception to follow.
We ask that you please refrain from bringing any electronic devices to his service.
Our son's story began on July 10th, 2000, the first born and only son to his surviving parents, Erik Kurt von Aspen and Tracy Lynn von Aspen (Miskowsky) in Glendale AZ. He soon would be followed in birth by two sisters, Lauren Elizabeth and Rhyan Alexis von Aspen.
Carson was a quiet, loving, inquisitive child who cherished his family and was especially fond of his grandmother, Elisabeth (Liz) von Aspen. He participated in many activities throughout his childhood including guitar playing, baseball, flag-football but eventually found his true passion while playing basketball. Carson was a tenacious player and even though he was only 5'10" and a power forward, he would often lead the team in acrobatic rebounds. He attended high school at Glendale Preparatory Academy, graduating on May 19th, 2018. Carson was a stoic student, slow to crack a smile, taking great pride and loyalty in his friendships and ability to relate to others. Although not overtly outgoing, his humble demeanor allowed him to go out of his way to make one feel at ease, often the peacemaker even within his own family. His senior thesis and subsequent defense focused on the evolution of friendship throughout history and how it translated from text to life application.
Carson's strong sense of loyalty commissioned him to desire to purse a career allowing him to counsel military veteran's who suffer from emotional trauma and PTSD. He planned on enlisting in the United States Army, where he felt he would best relate by first serving his country as his surviving grandfather John Robert von Aspen and his Great Grandfather, William Joseph Somishka had done before him.
Carson's story of hope and promise unfortunately tragically ceased on Tuesday June 12th, 2018 when he ended his own life.
We were honored as we believe Carson would have been to use this tragedy for another's benefit in providing life saving donation for multiple people through the help of Donor Network of Arizona.
Loved ones that will miss Carson until they meet him again are his parents Erik & Tracy von Aspen, sisters Lauren & Rhyan von Aspen, Grandparents John & Liz von Aspen, Bruce & Julie Philipps. Uncles- Eric Miskowsky (Nicole, Elliott, Talia), John von Aspen (Myuriel, Lauren), Aunts- Kristi von Aspen (Ricky, Robby), Ashley Suvanto (Steve, Lilah, Noah), many extended family members and many countless friends that he touched during his short time with us.
The family has been overwhelmed with the love and support from our church, school and local community. We kindly ask in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Glendale Preparatory Academy in Carson's name to a Memorial Sports Scholarship Fund, in honor of #5. We know Carson would have wanted his team to continue to allow all athletes the chance to play. Please contact Glendale Preparatory Academy @ 623-889-0822.
May the radiance and beauty of his life never be defined by his death
