I’m so sorry to hear about Charlie! His sister and I were childhood friends, Dorothy and Dooley lived on Bogart Avenue in the Bronx, and Carol was so very gracious and wonderful when I was trying to find Sue! From What I read he had a life well lived. A wonderful couple that raised lovely children. My most sincere condolences, even though it’s 10 years late.  

I will miss Charlie - he was a good friend for nearly 20 years and a genuinely good person.

As an engineer, I was always impressed by his technical expertise and judgement.

As a fellow pilot, I enjoyed his stories of adventures in the Taylorcraft.

Charlie and Carol,
I know that the most important thing is feeling like you have made a diffrence in this life.  All I can tell you is I would not have joined the military, pursued an education in electronics, or had a lifetime of avation with the most wonderful wife in the world without you.  My children would not only not be here but would not be chasing their own careers in the Air Force either or having thier own adventures.  You will always inspire us to keep an open mind and look to the horizon for the next adventure.  We miss you.

Grandpa I am going to miss you.  You're such an amazing man!  I wish we could have gotten to spend more time together.  Watch over and protect Grandma from your place in Heaven.   I love you so much!

We were so sorry to hear about Charlie's passing.  I know he is in a much better place now.  You are in our thoughts and prayers and hope that you are doing okay under the circumstances.

Charlie, you were a great older brother to me.  As we were 15 years apart, my memories of you were always with you and Carol together.  You were definitely the calmer of my two older brothers.  I remember your great sense of adventure and being disappointed when mom told Glen and I that you and Carol were moving to Arizona.  Little did I know at that time how much fun it would be to visit you and Carol out West every few years on Chipman Road.  I remember the birth of all your girls.  How proud you must be Charlie, with Carol, to have raised such caring, moral and grounded individuals.  You can't teach those qualities to children, you led by example..   As my husband Terry said, "The world would be a better place if there were  more people living in it like your daughters".  You were the gold standard Charlie, I hope I can live my life with half the dignity, moral rectitude and adventure for life.  Your loving sister, Sue

I met Charlie for the first time about 1983 at the State Fire School where he was teaching.  I sat under his instruction a number of times after that over the years.  He had a passion for what he taught and many times conducted classes for free to those who wanted to listen.  I shared his interest in electricity and he was always willing to give me advice whenever I had a question.  I always looked forward to working a fire with Charlie because I knew I would learn something I didn't know.  I chanced to run into him a few years ago in Denver at a seminar.  It was cold out, I looked outside and there  he was smoking a cigarettee and just watching it snow.  We spent the next few days mostly talking about electricity.  The last time I saw him was at his home he wanted to show me the minatures that Carol built, he seemed very proud of her talent and wanted to make sure I saw every one of them.  I will miss Charlie, he was a great friend to have.

Dad,
You were always there for me:  helping me do my math homework, late night talks, going to fancy restaurants for my birthday, coming to my school to teach electricity, helping me build cool science projects, taking me to work with you, taking me up for rides in our airplane, going to all the airshows, trips to the fire station, lunch at Denny's and long conversations about life.  You were always there.

You taught by example.  You went after every dream.  You were never happy to sit on the sidelines.  When politians were making you crazy, you ran for public office.  You wanted to help people, so you joined the Civil Air Patrol and were a volunteer fireman.  I watched you reach out to a waitress who was in need, which I am sure had been repeated many times over the years with many people.

You have a never ending smile and kindess in your heart.  You are smart and quick to learn.  You are an incredible teacher and eager to help others learn.  Because of you, many firefighters learned how to safely rescue people from accidents around power lines.

You said you don't think you made a difference in the world.  I know that every time you threw a small pebble in the pond, the ripples went on and on.  You made a huge difference in the world.

I never could have asked for a better dad.  I am so grateful to be your daughter.

"Stay in the middle of where you're supposed to be." Those words have come to me in Dad's voice all throughout my life.  He told me that once when he was teaching me to drive because I was being too cautious and confusing the other drivers.  His words come to me every time I am being indecisive or not moving forward with my decisions.  It is a reminder to me to be clear in my intentions in my life and to move forward in the middle of the path that I have chosen.  Dad is such a wonderful example to have the privilege of following.  He met life with a sense of adventure, and was always willing to share his experiences to teach others.  I will miss you always, but you'll always be in my heart because you are a part of who I am.

A love of reading, a thirst for knowledge, a spirit of adventure, and a mischievous glint in his eye.  I will miss him so much.  I treasure the memories I have of sitting around the table after dinner and listening eagerly to Grandpa's stories.  Not only did he have the most amazing experiences, but he had the gift of story telling.  We could listen to him for hours without realizing how much time had past.  

Grandpa taught me how to drive at the old airport, then took me to lunch.  He helped me put together an amazing slide presentation when I was in middle school.  He invited me to meet some of his engineering buddies when I expressed interest in entering the field.  He stayed up late with me playing computer games when I stayed the night.  He taught me how to use the internet.  

Whatever my interest, Grandpa had a connection, a story or an idea to contribute.

I think he did everything a little boy dreams of doing when he grows up.  He was a fireman, a policeman/security guard, a lineman, a cowboy, a pilot, an engineer, a private investigator and I've probably even missed a few.

I hope that I can teach my children to dream big and then go for it as he did.  I am so grateful for his love and example in my life.  I will miss him dearly.

Grandpa was an amazing man, I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to know him. He always brought a smile to my face when I was around him. I loved to listen to the stories he would tell of things he had done. He will always have a place in my heart.

Bunky and I want to extend out deepest sympathies to you and your family on the loss of Charlie.  I am a part-time investigator with EFI and worked with Charlie the last two years.  I first met Charlie several years ago at one of the IAAI seminars in Phoenix.  I saw him occasionally after that, and I was pleasantly surprised to find Charlie at EFI when I went there.  He was a good friend and helped me a lot.  I shall always remember his kind words and assistance.

Grandpa, 

You were always so sweet and kind.  You really do have one of the sweetest smiles I've ever seen.   I wish Nate and I had gotten to spend more time with you and hear the stories of your life.  Hopefully we will be able to hear the stories when we are all together again.  I know you are in a better place, and that all of your pain and suffering is finally at an end.  We love you.

Grandpa is, was, and forever will be an inspiration to me to always seek out my dreams and try new things.  I will always remember him.

Dear Grandpa,
I love you so much!  You have been in my prayers constantly.  I wish that I could see you and give you a giant hug, but time and distance are not on my side.  

One thing that gives me much comfort while I am so far away from family is that the good Lord is watching over all of you.  I know that He is with you and grandma and my mom, as well as the others.  He is aware of you and your needs, the pain that you feel, and the sorrow that those close to you bear.  He loves you.  Although I cannot be there and attempt to give a small measure of comfort, I know that He is there, the greatest Comforter of all.

Grandpa, I remember those moments of listening to your stories, of the life you have lead, the books that you have fallen into.  I treasure each memory and each hug.  I love you so much!  

I know that I will see you again, whether in this life, or beyond, I do not know, but I will see you.  I wish that there was more that I could do or say, but remember the love that you have felt from those you love and from our Heavenly Father.  I love you!
