Chuck (Charles) Leonard New was born in Houston, Texas on February 17, 1938. His parents were Roy and Zora Mae New of Grand Avenue Produce Company in Phoenix, Arizona. Chuck passed away peacefully at his Peoria, Arizona home on July 11, 2018.
He is survived by his wife, Betty New. They were married 51 years. Their three children are NancyKay Myers (deceased April 1998) Mark New, and Sheryl Horlbeck. Chuck and Betty also have eight grandchildren: Natosha Neese, Karrington Hahn, Victoria Heizelman, Mariah Horlbeck, Jessica Horlbeck, Nathaniel New, Autumn New, and Alyssa Horlbeck and one great, grandchild Natalyn Neese. Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Zora Mae New, and brother Raymond New. He is survived by brother John New, and sisters Linda Schmidt, Mona Post, and Billie New.
Chuck and Betty owned Pestaway Exterminating Company and operated in Phoenix, Arizona for 43 years. When not working so hard for his family, Chuck’s favorite pastimes included bowling, woodworking, fishing, and golf. He won a state championship in bowling, built several playhouses and sandboxes for his children and grandchildren, had his fair share of FISH STORIES to tell, and made deep friendships and perhaps even a few business deals while landing a shot on the back nine!
One of Chuck’s greatest achievements and acts of service is 37 years of sobriety and sponsoring through Alcoholics Anonymous.
He was known to his family as The Chief or The Great White Father and was famous for his humorous antics and one liners. He was also very generous, often giving to others freely with anonymity and void of boast.
Chuck will be sorely missed by his friends and family. He lived 80 years and filled them well. As Chuck
would love to say, “Be good to yourself.”
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, July 20, 2018 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at West Resthaven Funeral Home 6450 W. Northern Avenue Glendale, Arizona.
