Dallas Dale Hann, 90, died peacefully surrounded by his family on August 28, 2015 at his home in Phoenix, Arizona.
Dallas was born October 21, 1924 at home in Youngstown, Ohio to Charles Dallas and Lorina Peters Hann. Dallas graduated from Fitch High School in Austintown, Ohio in 1943. Immediately after high school, Dallas entered the Army Air Corp where he earned his wings and served as a radioman and corpsman on the B29 bomber.
After the war Dallas attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1953. Dallas worked for The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and Goodyear Aerospace in Akron, Ohio and then, in 1962, transferred to Goodyear, Arizona. At Goodyear Aerospace which became Loral Systems and then Lockheed Martin, Dallas primarily worked on radar projects. He retired in December 1988. Dallas served as president of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Dallas married his high school sweetheart, Jean Elizabeth Paugh Hann, on December 21, 1946. He leaves behind his wife of 68 years and five children, Kenneth Hann (Brenda) of Vail, Arizona, Sandra Van Gorp (Dennis) of Superior, Arizona, Ruth Polyard (Ronald) of Peoria, Arizona, John Hann(Jean) of Maricopa, Arizona, and Charles Hann (Gabriella) of Phoenix, Arizona; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and many friends.
Dallas is survived by two brothers, Howard Eugene (Virginia) Hann of Austintown, Ohio and Ernest Dana Hann of Leetonia, Ohio. One brother, Clarence Doyle Hann, is deceased.
Dallas was a woodworker, golfer, fisherman, gardener and an avid hunter. Dallas raised hunting dogs and was the president of the local hunting dog club. Dallas cherished the friendships he made in the Pioneer Club.
Blindness caused by macular degeneration, hearing loss, and a failing heart did not keep Dallas from living and enjoying life to the fullest. At the age of 88 he took computer and woodworking courses through the Blind Rehabilitation Center of the Veterans Administration.
Dallas Hann’s life is an example of one well lived. He taught his family how to speak the truth, love, and accept everyone. Dallas was the rock of his family and he will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 from five to eight o’clock at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 West Northern Avenue, Glendale, Arizona 85301.
Services will be held at Camelback Community Church, 7634 West Camelback Road, Glendale, Arizona 85303, at nine o’clock in the morning on Thursday, September 3, 2015.
The burial will be at National Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 23029 North Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85024 following the service.
