OBITUARY

Dennis Walter Flagler

June 8, 1947May 6, 2019

Dennis Walter Flagler of Glendale, Arizona, 71, passed away on Monday May 6, 2019 in his home in Glendale. Den was born on June 8, 1947 to Walter and Marie (Miller) Flagler in East Berne, New York. Life changed, as he knew it, when his little sister Debra Flagler was born a few years later. When he was young he loved spending time on the family farm in Cole Hill, East Berne with his grandparents and uncles. While attending high school he worked part time out of his uncle Bob Miller’s Cherry Avenue ESSO gas station in Delmar. Just a few months after graduating from Berne Knox High School he received a letter from Uncle Sam requesting his presence in the US Army. He proudly served. After a year of training at Fort Hood Texas, Den was shipped out to serve in Viet Nam. Upon returning to his home town of East Berne he took a job with Tobin Packing Company, where he stayed until he decided to relocate to Glendale, Arizona. After settling down he was very proud of the arrival of his daughters Regina and Christina Flagler; little did he know he’d soon become the “Bank of Daddy.” Den proved the old saying is true that “the only thing better than having children is having grandchildren, and his heart belonged to Ryleigh and Alexander Flagler”, (his daughters always joked that they looked more like “Flagler’s’” then they did.) Den enjoyed being a diesel mechanic at Lake Shore and Road Machinery along with being a mechanic for his daughters; he made sure that they were safe and were never taken advantage of. He loved going to Ryleigh’s softball games and he always went to hockey games to howl for the Arizona Coyotes. Dennis will be dearly missed, but now he’s with his parents telling stories about his grandkids.

Along with his sister, children, and grandchildren, his is survived by his Aunt Pat (the late Kenneth) Miler of Albany, Aunt Linda (the late Robert) Miller of East Berne, niece Tracy Williams of Charlotte, NC and too many cousins to list. He was preceded by his nephew Michael Williams.

Since a part of Den always remained in East Berne, a “Celebration of Life” will be held this summer in East Berne.

Den loved dogs and was proud of serving his county, so we feel he would appreciated donations to POW 127 Smithtown Bled, STE 19, Nesconset, NY 11767. This company trains and places shelter dogs to serve and provide support to U.S. Military Veterans’ who are suffering from the emotional effects of War.

Never met a man who could be so serious yet so funny at the same time. He was a good man who taught good working ethics. So long my friend make them laugh.
