When Doyle was 7 years old, his family moved to Phoenix, AZ where he went to school and met his future wife, Sylvia. He married Sylvia Carlton on November 20, 1959 after a whirlwind romance. Doyle and Sylvia raised their two loving children, Karen and Steven, in Phoenix.
Over the years, he held several jobs, including, being drafted and serving honorably in the U.S. Army at end of the Korean War. Following his basic training at Fort Ord in California, he spent a year with the 5th Houser Division as a Specialist 3rd Class in Korea. He then returned to California and Colorado for the remainder of his tour.
After the Army he held positions at Food City, Goodyear Aircraft, John F. Long Homes, Ray Rolls Mobile Homes, Bob Shade Screens, and Acorn Glass.
Doyle’s favorite pastime was caring for his home, and he obsessed about his yard. In 1990 Sylvia and Doyle bought a cabin in Heber-Overgaard, where he spent endless hours “maintaining” the forest around the cabin. He also loved feeding and training the squirrels, and occasionally they grew bold enough to pull on his pant leg to request one of the walnuts he carried in his pocket for them.
As Doyle’s health started to significantly decline in 2016, Sylvia was advised that she should have additional support for Doyle’s care. We were incredibly fortunate to find Comfort Care Home in Surprise, AZ. The two owners, Eugen and Lidia Corsarba are loving and compassionate people, who provided exceptional care for Doyle in the early years of his stay, with Sam and Belle providing his daily comfort and care in recent years.
Doyle died peacefully on October 24, 2024, with family by his side. He leaves behind his loving wife Sylvia, children Steven (Susan Henry) White, Karen (Lynne Randall) White & Randall (Lorie) Jarrell, two sisters Frances Graham & Lois Drane, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Doyle was preceded in death by two sisters Juanita Burgess & Esther Fries.
Funeral services will be held at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W. Northern Ave, Glendale, AZ on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at 12:00PM, with a viewing beginning at 11:00AM.
