Edward Charles “Ed” Jerome, 85, passed away on May 3, 2019 in Glendale, Arizona after battling cancer. He was born on May 20, 1933 to the late Joseph and Anna (Servial) Jerome in Mona, West Virginia. The family moved to the metro Detroit area where Ed later attended Lincoln High School in Warren graduating in 1951. He went on to study at Wayne State University, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Music and a Master’s degree in Education. Ed also served several years in the U.S. Army. On May 27, 1961, he married Donna (Shene) in Warren, Michigan.
Ed worked as a teacher for Roseville Public Schools from which he retired in 1990 after more than 30 years of service. In addition to teaching, Ed was a talented musician who played saxophone, flute, bass, clarinet, and harmonica and worked steadily with several successful wedding bands over the years. He was an avid photographer for many years, and even had several of his photos published. Ed was an accomplished table tennis player and won competitions at the state level.
In May of 1995, Ed and his wife Donna relocated to Glendale, Arizona, and have called it home for the past 24 years. Ed continued to play table tennis into his seventies and played music in a trio with his friends until just a few years ago.
Ed also enjoyed movies, reading, puzzles, hiking, traveling and many types of sports. He was a member of the Detroit Federation of Musicians, the American Federation of Teachers, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America and the Detroit and Phoenix Table Tennis Clubs.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Donna; his two daughters Diane and Eydie and many loving nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Eugene and sister Evelyn (Battisti).
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019 with a Veterans Honors Ceremony preceding the service at 10:45 a.m., at Atonement Lutheran Church, 4001 W. Beardsley Road, Glendale, Arizona 85308 with officiant Rev. David Haught. A luncheon will follow the services.
