Edward Madrid Rios

Edward Madrid Rios passed away on December 21, 2022, at home with his family by his side. He was born in San Jose, California on December 8, 1949, to the late Florentino Sabedra and Dorothea Madrid Rios. Pablo Rios raised Eddie after Florentino died when Eddie was young.

He married Olivia Marie Ortega on March 16, 1985; they have shared over 37 years of marriage.

Eddie was a firefighter for over 40 years starting as a volunteer and working his way up to Chief of the El Mirage Fire Department. He served as the Chief for 26 years retiring in 2002. Not one to be idle Eddie joined the Surprise Fire Department as an inspector and arson investigator. Before retiring in 2016, he served as Chief for the Wittmann Fire Department for 8 years. There was a transition period when Eddie was working for both Surprise and Wittmann.

He is survived by his loving wife Olivia, three sons Pablo, Gabe (Courtney) & Edward, eight siblings Frances Cortez, Isabel Sabedra, Paul Rios, Dorothy Lopez, Robert Rios, Pete Rios, Vincente Rios & Manuel Rios, two grandsons Andrue & Mateo and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Eddie is also survived by Luis (Tiffany) Valenzuela and their children Hope, Faith& Izic; Luis was like a son to Eddie and he loved Luis' children as grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, from 4-8 PM at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W. Northern Avenue, Glendale, with a rosary at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at 10 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 5614 W. Orangewood Avenue, Glendale. Burial will follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery.
