Eva “Weda” Martin, 80 years of age, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away peacefully on August 7, 2023, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Eva was born on September 28, 1942, in Hondo, Texas to Pedro and Luisa Gonzales as one of twelve children.
Eva was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Martin, her son Joseph Stephen Chavez, her parents Pedro and Luisa Gonzales, and sisters Frances Lomeli, Clara Olmeda, and Guadalupe Romero.
She is survived by her two sons, Peter Chavez, Jr., (Eva) and Ernest Chavez, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sisters Isabel Montano (John), Lydia Gonzales, Dora Ybarra, Maria Cruz (John), Sylvia Johnson, Rosemary Soto (Joseph) and two brothers Pedro Gonzales, Jr., (Norma) and Arnulfo Gonzales.
Eva's hobbies and interests included family, friends, reading, crossword puzzles, shopping, and traveling and she loved her visits to the casino. Always one to help family and friends, always with an open heart and smile.
She was employed by St. Joseph's Hospital for 45 years and retired in 2008, where she worked as a surgical technician. After retiring from St. Joseph's Hospital she kept busy by working at Youngker High School in Buckeye, Arizona, only to return to work at her beloved St. Joseph's Hospital, now Dignity Health.
Although she was a petite woman, she could always hold her own and had such courage and hope to deal with whatever life may have dealt her. She was the epitome of everything a woman should be, elegance and good taste.
You will be missed our beautiful “Weda” but will forever be in our hearts and never forgotten.
