I only knew Evelyn for a few years, but I found her to be a kind and industrious woman and I shall always remember her. I came into her life as one of the grandmothers to Greyson Reyes-Petroff and we had a wonderful time watching him through his babyhood. When his parents purchased their first small house near a grade school, I often saw her there helping out with volunteer yard sweeping. She was so taken with her new family. I noticed she loved pistacheos and would try to always bring her a nice big bag whenever I came across town to visit. 

Seeing Evelyn at family parties and celebrations became fewer and far between, until she was gone. My heart sinks when I think how much more I would have travelled over to see her. She was such a big part of family history and an era almost lost. Her face in the picture here reminds me so much of Greyson, her bright and shining and happy legacy.

Evelyn. I think of you often and wish you were still here to learn more about you and the full life you lived. Maybe you will tell us all about it later, or in the meantime, in dreams to come.

I knew Evelyn for only a few years, as Leticia Reyes-Petroff’s grandmother and as her son, Greyson’s great-grandmother. Evelyn was a smart and dynamic woman who worked hard for her family. At gatherings, I liked to bring her a big bag of pistashios, which she seemed delighted to get. I remember her raking leaves at Lettie and wife Lenora’s first home. She was so impressed with  the girls’ difficult accomplishment, she wanted to show her pride by helping with the work.

I liked her and admired her energy, kindness, and happiness in little things. I will miss you, Evelyn. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
