He was the youngest of three sons born to Gable Eugene Sr. and Howard Dee Dickens. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers: Everett Clemmons, Charles Clemmons, Leon Clemmons, Edward “Dickey” Clemmons, Lawrence Eugene, and Ernest Eugene.
Gable was educated in the Chicago Public School District and was a proud graduate of Englewood High School.
At a young age, Gable accepted Christ and was baptized at Bellevue Baptist Church. He served faithfully as an usher for many years. After relocating to Arizona, he continued his Christian fellowship at Word of Abundance Life Church, which later merged with Pure Heart Church.
In April of 1964, Gable met the love of his life, Pearl M. Smiley, at the home of his best friend and her brother. They were married on December 24, 1964, and celebrated 61 years of happy matrimony. From this union, two children were born: Darryl Eugene and Erica Eugene.
Gable was employed at the Weston Electric Hawthorne Plant in Cicero, Illinois, where he worked for 25 years. When the plant closed in 1985, he transferred to Phoenix, Arizona, and continued his employment until his retirement in 1996.
People were naturally drawn to Gable. He was easy to talk to, easy to like, and had a way of making others feel comfortable simply by being himself. He did not need to be the loudest person in the room to be noticed. His humor was natural, dry, and unforced. He knew how to lighten a moment and ease tension, and he connected effortlessly with people from all walks of life.
Gable had a lifelong love of travel, from childhood through adulthood. He especially enjoyed cruises, traveling abroad, and exploring the United States.
Gable leaves to cherish and celebrate his life his beloved wife, Pearl M. Eugene; his son, Darryl Eugene; his daughter, Erica Eugene; five grandsons; two great-granddaughters; five brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
