Jenkins. When she was six years old, the Jenkins family moved to Scottsdale, AZ, where her parents owned and operated an A.J. Bayless store.
It was here in the Arizonan desert that her friend introduced her to the love of her life, Leonard
Roswell Miller. Just two short weeks after meeting, they eloped and married at the Salome, Arizona courthouse. They were married for almost 46 years, until he left this earth February 9, 2000.
Gladys was a hard worker her entire life: from helping her parents in their store, to being a seamstress at a Gruber's sweatshop, and finally retiring after 27 years at Motorola.
Outside of work, Gladys was a great storyteller who lived a fascinating and humble life. Her favorite thing to do was make art, in many different mediums. She painted prolifically, both on canvas and non-traditional mediums like eggs and Christmas ornaments. Sometimes, those ornaments would have tiny hand-sculpted clay flowers.
Her greatest legacy, however, is within her children and those that followed. Gladys lovingly raised her three beautiful children, and was the most wonderful grandmother to ever walk this earth to 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Adding to her enduring memories, her art was often passed down to her children and grandchildren, including her amazing replica of the "Blue Boy" that she painted for her youngest son. Her kind and generous spirit was one of the reasons that she was loved and cherished by so many people. Her memories and love will live on in the many gifts she made for family and friends.
Gladys lived her life as a true follower of Christ. She held no room for hate or grudges, and always followed the most important commandment Jesus gave in John 13:34 - "...that you love one another; just as I loved you, you also are to love one another." She had so much love to give, and she made sure she spread it freely to everyone she came in contact with. No one went hungry in her house. Even when she struggled or faced tough times, she rarely wore anything but a smile.
She is the loving and devoted mother of Ted A. Miller, Carolynn "Sissy" J. Brightman, and Dennis R.
Miller.
Adored grandmother of Jeffery Miller, Jodi Mahlman, Jessica Hatfield, Shirley Dohadwala and
Christa Miller; great-grandmother of Abram, Osiah, Jaddua, Anais, Evan, Brooke, Haley, Zachery,
Zander, Katie, Brayton, Logan, Caleb and Madeline; great-great-grandmother of Elizabeth and
Evelynn.
