He grew up in Wakefield, RI where his family owned and operated the Avery Funeral Home for four generations. He also joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 and served until 1951. He was a crew member of the U.S.S. Newport News, commissioned in 1949. Hartford moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1962 and continued his career in the funeral business until his retirement in 1994. Hartford is survived by his wife; Judy Avery, sons; Mark Avery, Todd Avery and Chris Avery; daughters; Carol Forseth and Nancy Brown and stepsons; Mike Brklacich and Matt Brklacich. His lasting legacy also includes numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Inurnment will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of AZ at a later date. Funeral arrangements were handled by Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, Glendale, AZ.
