Hortensia Ramirez Mercado (77) of Glendale Arizona. Entered into heaven on October 21,2020 . She was born on April 7, 1943 in Phoenix, AZ to Charlie & Beatrice Ramirez. Hortensia was 1 of 8 children. She grew up in Glendale and attended Glendale Elementary School till 8th grade, when she began working packing fruits as additional income to help her family. She then worked at Honeywell for 20 years and in that time she went back to school to get her GED. After obtaining her GED, she enrolled at Phoenix College to complete her Nurses Aid Certificate. Following her certification completion , she was hired on for the next 15 years at the Phoenix School District as a Nurses Assistant.
Hortensia Married the Love of her life Armando Mercado, 57 years ago with whom she had 5
handsome boys. She worked hard raising her 5 boys, ensuring they had all they needed to
succeed in this world, not only worldly but spiritually as well. She took extreme pride in her grandchildren and was about to be blessed with her first great granddaughter.
She believed strongly in her Catholic Faith. Her favorite places to go with her family and grandchildren were Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Soak City, and the California Beaches. She also enjoyed Backyard cookouts & lots of laughter. Hortensia Loved to dance, even later in life when she was bound to her wheelchair, she would shake her shoulders anytime she heard music, sing and clap. Hortensia enjoyed going to the Casino and playing for hours on the slot machines. Her winning money would be stashed away in her bra next to her lipstick.
Hortensia is survived by her Husband Armando Mercado; Children- Joseph & wife Angela , Armando Jr., Gilbert Sr. & Steven Michael (Mike) & Ruben”s Fiance Sylvia Ruiz: Grandchildren- Marissa, Steven Michael Jr. (Mikey) , Lillyana, Jessica, Destiny, Gilbert Jr. & Paulina (Mia) & a Great Granddaughter to join our Mercado Family January, 2021; Brothers & Sisters: Velia Ramirez, Peter Ramirez (Angie ) , Beatrice Polacios (Freddie), & Manuel Ramirez.
Hortensia is also survived by many other family & friends that all loved her dearly.
She has been reunited with her son Ruben, both her parents Charlie & Beatrice, Brother Carlos,
Brother Tony, Sister Maria Socorro (Coyo) along with many other loved once.
