Howard B. Mattoon

Howard B. Mattoon 74, of El Mirage, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at home surrounded by his family. Born on December 31, 1936 in Bethlehem, New York. He moved with his family to El Mirage in 1942. Howard was active in community service serving El Mirage for many years as Mayor, Councilman, Police Commissioner, and was a volunteer with the El Mirage fire department. As Mayor he was a member of the Maricopa Association of Government which was involved in the Master planning of the West Valley. He was founding member of the Maricopa County Surprise Sheriffs Posse. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Phoebe Mattoon and twin brother Frank. A dedicated husband, father, son and brother, he is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Mary, son Rick (Krista), daughters Donna Perry and Sherry Roepke (Richard), grandchildren Michael, Connor, Chandler and Josi, brothers Edward (Leona), Bill (Freddie), Howard Ehrenfeld (Annette), and many nieces and nephews.Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Wednesday, February 9th at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W. Northern Ave., Glendale, Arizona, where the Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 10th.Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley.
