

Mitchell, Irene (Plummer), 94 of Glendale, Az. passed away on August 24, 2013. She was born near New Philadelphia, Ohio on March 13, 1919 to Richard and Rosa Webb Plummer. Irene married Myron (Red) Mitchell in June 1938 and they moved to Arizona in 1944. They settled on a farm just west of Litchfield Park, members of the Adaman Farmers group. Together they raised cotton, cattle, and five children. She loved and enjoyed her family, many friends, crocheting and her large collection of egg cups. Family raised, she joined Dysart School District and enjoyed working at Luke Field Elementary School. In 1970, the family moved to Glendale, where she continued working at the school until she retired in 1984. Irene and Red enjoyed 47 years of marriage until she was widowed at the age of 66. In 2004, she moved to Glencroft, in Glendale, her home until her passing. She is survived by her daughters Sandi and Joani, her sons Gary (Linda), Rob and Jim (Jill), 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, two sister-in-laws, Edith Plummer and Kathleen Plummer, and many nieces and nephews. Irene was the last remaining of 9 siblings. She is predeceased by a daughter-in-law Linda (Rob). Visitation at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary 7924 N. 59th Ave. Glendale, AZ 85301 on Friday, August 30 at 9am followed by a funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 10am. Interment to follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery 6450 W. Northern Ave. Glendale, AZ. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Glencroft Foundation of Hospice of the Valley, in Irene’s memory.
