Irma Verleen Swan (99) of Glendale, Arizona entered into Rest on September 12, 2018. Irma was born in Fredericksburg, Iowa to John William and Hilda Hulda Martha Lizzy (Schumacher) Ladwig. Irma graduated high school in Maxwell, Iowa and then enrolled in and graduated from the Thompson Beauty School in Des Moines, Iowa which started her life long career as a beautician and successful business woman. Irma married, Stanley VanDyke Swan, the love of her life on December 24, 1939. Irma and Stanley made a life together in southeastern Iowa and were inseparable until his passing in 1969. Irma loved working with the National T.T.T Society (Time, Talents, and Treasures) an organization that commits themselves to sending girls to experience the fun and adventure of summer camp. She was an avid gardener with the greenest of thumbs, shared an extraordinary sense of color with her art club, played bridge expertly, and was an active member of the United Methodist Church. Irma was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and dear friends. She said “my legacy to my great grandchildren are my homemade cinnamon rolls & to the townspeople my mincemeat pies.” Irma leaves behind her daughter Sharon Lee Peterson; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson. She is preceded in Heaven by her parents, husband, son Jerry Lynn Swan, and granddaughter Jennifer Jane Swan.
All family and friends are invited to a grave-side service at Forest Home Cemetery on 1100 S. Walnut St. in Mount Pleasant, Iowa on Monday October 15, 2018 at 10:00 AM. All are most welcome to gather for a remembrance and luncheon following the grave-side service at First United Methodist Church on 309 N. Main St. from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
