Jerry lived a life defined by adventure, curiosity, and a one-of-a-kind spirit that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. From traveling with the carnival to spending time living on a houseboat, he embraced an unconventional path and found joy in experiences that others only dream of.
Known for his quirky personality and easygoing nature, Jerry had a way of making people feel at ease. He was endlessly curious and had a natural talent for fixing things, often taking things apart just to understand how they worked—and usually putting them back together again. Though he had a knack for problem-solving, he was also famously accident-prone, a trait he carried with humor throughout his life.
Jerry attended Sunburst Farms Elementary and later Greenway High School, where his laid-back demeanor and unique perspective on life began to shine. He carried those qualities with him into adulthood, never losing his sense of wonder or his willingness to explore the unexpected.
A devoted dog lover, Jerry cared deeply for his pets and treated them like family. He was known for putting little booties on their feet to protect them from the hot ground—a small but meaningful example of his thoughtful and caring nature.
Jerry is survived by his loving mother, Junetta Ervin; his sisters, Melissa Savage, Laura Cook, and Cheryl McDonald; and his step-siblings, Becky Ervin, Steve Ervin, and Justin Ervin. He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Getz; his brothers, Chris Getz and Floyd Ervin; and his stepfather, Skip Ervin.
Jerry will be remembered for his adventurous life, his gentle heart, and his ability to find joy in the simple and the unusual. His memory will live on in the stories he created and the lives he touched.
