Jim Greathouse, age 86, passed away on September 1, 2021. He was born in Phoenix, Arizona to Lillian and Dwight “Bud” Greathouse on October 3, 1934. Jim married the love of his life in 1958, and they were blessed with two wonderful sons. He served four years as a decorated member of the US Army in Germany, and six years in the Army Reserves. Jim worked for the Arizona State Highway Department for over 30 years transporting and operating heavy equipment around the state.
His hobby and passion was fabricating and building cars. He especially enjoyed transforming volkswagens into one of a kind designs. He built over 80 cars in his lifetime and loved attending car shows with his family and friends. Jim always had a special place in his heart for animals, and had many dogs over the years. He also had a great sense of humor. His corny jokes and endless stories at family gatherings will be dearly missed.
Jim is survived by his wife Judith Greathouse; son Lance and wife Janis; grandsons Alex and Bryce; grandson Clay, son of Brent Greathouse, who proceeded Jim’s death in 2004; sister Lillian Boyd who proceed Jim’s death in 2017; niece Tracy Sahhar and husband Bill; niece Lori Sevilla; along with numerous extended family members who knew him as “Uncle Jim”.
The Patriot Guard Riders of Arizona will lead a Special Procession on Saturday, September 18, 2021 from Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary in Glendale, Arizona to Resthaven Park Cemetery located in Glendale, Arizona. All those wishing to participate in the procession should arrive at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary no later than 10:15 am. All others wishing to attend the interment should arrive at Resthaven Park Cemetery at 11:00 am to welcome the procession.
A "Celebration of Jim's Life" will be held at the Greathouse family home following the interment at 12:00 pm. Memories, tributes, and expressions of sympathy may be shared online by googling "Jim Greathouse obit Glendale, Arizona" a dignity provider or www.ChapeloftheChimesMortuary.com.
