John Bustamante, 82, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and love for his family and community. Born on September 3, 1942 in Tolleson, Arizona, John demonstrated an early desire to embrace life and opportunity. After completing eighth grade, he made the bold decision to leave school and embark on a career at Grants Department Stores, following his role in helping his father establish John’s Market in Tolleson, Arizona.
At Grants, John’s strong work ethic and exceptional communication skills quickly earned him recognition. Despite not having a college degree, he was invited to join the management training program, eventually managing his own store and assisting in the opening of several new locations across the valley. For many, shopping at Grants was a special experience, especially for his children, who cherished seeing their father in action.
When Grants Department Stores faced bankruptcy, John seamlessly transitioned into the wholesale grocery business. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to acquire a couple of businesses of his own which he managed for over a decade and then later into retail grocery where he retired. Throughout his career, John never lost sight of what truly mattered: family.
John was known for his warmth and genuine interest in others, forging connections that extended beyond family ties. He was deeply loved by many, and his kindness and caring nature will be missed by all who knew him.
John was preceded in death by his father Juan, his mother Ernestina and his brothers Henry and Manuel.
He is survived by his wife Alice, daughter Rebecca, son Paul, grandchildren John Paul, Paul Arthur, Natalie, Emily, and Michael, and great grandchildren Killian, Leo, Kaelyn and Kaleb, sister Ernestina, daughter-in-law Veronica, and son-in-law Randy.
He leaves behind countless memories that will be cherished forever.
