J.D., a beloved son, father, brother, grandson, and friend, passed away on May 26, 2026, at the age of 28. Born on August 14, 1997, and a proud native Arizonan, J.D. lived a life defined by love, loyalty, hard work, and an unwavering devotion to his family. His soul was sensitive, pure, and contagiously kind.
As a child, J.D. was a happy free spirit whose smile could light up a room. As a teenager, he grew into himself, gaining confidence and finding his place in the world. Throughout adulthood, he remained loving yet ornery, stubborn yet caring, and deeply committed to the people he loved most. He was often described as the strong, silent type. While he could be reserved at first, those fortunate enough to know him well discovered a different side of him—a man with a contagious laugh, a great sense of humor, and a talent for making others feel welcome. He genuinely cared about people, always asking how friends and family were doing and offering support without judgment. He gave everyone the benefit of the doubt and treated others with kindness and respect.
Above all else, J.D.'s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was his son, Rhys. Being Rhys's father was the role he cherished most. His love for his son was unconditional and limitless, and much of his life revolved around creating memories with him. When he wasn't spending time with Rhys, J.D. loved being surrounded by family and friends. Nothing made him happier than having everyone together, laughing, sharing stories, and enjoying each other's company.
J.D. enjoyed many simple pleasures in life. He loved fishing, camping, being outdoors, playing video games, and taking beach vacations, especially night swimming under the stars. He had a love for the color red, always ordered the hottest wings on the menu, and was rarely seen without socks. His taste in music covered every genre depending on the mood, and he could often be found watching his favorite movie, Nacho Libre, or enjoying episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants. He also had a fascination with conspiracy theories and loved discussing them with family and friends.
J.D. attended school in Arizona and graduated on time, proving that determination and perseverance often mattered more than appearances. During high school, he enjoyed weight training and began working summers alongside his stepfather as a cable technician. Following graduation, he worked at Discount Tire before returning to the cable industry. In recent years, he worked as a Bulk Merchandiser for Hensley, where he was known as a hardworking, dependable employee and "just one of the guys."
Family was the center of J.D.'s world. He is survived by his loving mother, Tricia, who adored her son and shared a special bond with him; his stepfather, Steve, who loved and raised J.D. as his own since he was three years old; his son, Rhys, who was the light of his life; and his siblings, Jacob, Victor, and Joslyn. He was preceded in death by his father, J.D. Sr., who passed away in 2000, and leaves behind the cherished memories of his beloved grandparents and great-grandmother: Bama Joanne, Nana Eva, Nana Patsy, Tata John, Tata Chuck, Tata Jack, and Nana Sylvia, along with numerous extended family members whose lives were enriched by his presence.
Most people may not have known that J.D. once dreamed of becoming a chiropractor. Those who knew him best understood that whatever path he chose, his greatest purpose was always caring for those he loved.
One of the guiding principles of J.D.'s life was simple but powerful: "Pray about everything." His faith, his love for family, and especially his devotion to Rhys helped shape the man he became, and he will be remembered most for the unconditional love he gave so freely, the way he showed up for his family, and the joy he found in bringing everyone together. His contagious smile, unforgettable laugh, stubborn determination, caring heart, and deep loyalty will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
Though his time with us was far too short, the love he shared and the memories he created will live on forever. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten.
