Joey loved—and was good at—all kinds of sports. He started playing little league baseball and eventually joined a travel team. After not playing for years, he joined an adult team in AZ. Joey said, “I forgot how much I love the game!” With his maternal grandparents he also skied and hiked in Stratton Mountain in Vermont as well as Park City in Utah. He also loved visiting his paternal grandparents. As a young child he especially loved spending time at their farm in Pennsylvania.
He was a hard, persistent worker. Whether as a youngster changing dozens of knobs on windows for his grandparents or working in his twenties as an electrician on new construction, he could be counted on to get the job done.
At 27, his life was cut way too short by a hit-and-run driver on July 20, 2018, in Phoenix. Yet the strong love that flowed to his friends and family and back to him seemed to bespeak of someone older.
Joey is survived by his mother Suzanne Ball, his father Samuel Schott, his stepfather Jeffrey Ball, his stepbrother William Ball; his sisters Morgan, Madelynne, Madison and Melissa; his “brother” Jacob Haynie and his niece Cecilia; his aunt and uncle Jennifer and Michael Birk; his maternal grandparents Samuel and Kay Miller; his paternal grandparents Ilona and Carl Schott and his uncle Benjamin Schott; and his girlfriend Trisha Popoff.
