Karen Joyce Flukas of Phoenix, Arizona passed away August 19, 2021. She was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. She was born on April 16, 1950 to John Albert and Miriam Rice Hayden. She graduated from Hempfield High School and attended classes at Butler, (Pa.), Scottsdale and Rio Salado community Colleges.
She was married to Daniel Flukas on May 1, 1971 in Greensburg. Pa. Karen chose a career working in a corporate legal environment and in personnel administration. Her last employment was with Scottsdale Insurance Company working as an Executive Secretary to the Vice-President-Legal and Managing Counsel.
Karen loved helping others, always showing up with turkeys on Turkey Tuesdays for St. Vincent de Paul and organizing her work team to volunteer at St. Mary’s Food Bank.
Her overriding passions were spending time with the family dogs, taking them along on vacation every now and then, and completing page after page of “puzzle” books (generally Word Search), eating Mexican food with iced tea as her favorite beverage. Favorite singer: Jimmy Buffett, hands down.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel Flukas, and sister, Cheryl Hayden, of North Lima, Ohio.
She will be greatly missed for her display of care for others, a unique sense of humor and with a smile on her face even during difficult times, an inspiration to others.
