

Lois Ann Hollander (nee Westbrock) was born December 6, 1939 in Browns Valley, MN to Norbert and Alma Westbrock. She grew up on a farm near Browns Valley, MN. Lois attended the College of St Catherine in St Paul, MN and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and eventually her Master's Degree from ASU. She married John Driscoll in 1961. The couple then moved to Phoenix, AZ where they welcomed three children; Dulcie, Timothy and Mandie. She married George Hollander in 1985. In 1995, she married Robert Wright. She also raised her grandson, Christopher Melvin. Lois taught elementary education for the Alhambra School District. She was an excellent teacher sharing many of her teaching talents and skills. Her love of children was ever present in her life and she showered her many students with this love of learning as she did her children and grandchildren. She was a lifelong learner and avid reader. She was vibrant and passionate about education. She was also a committed volunteer giving time to several libraries, the Alhambra Credit Union and Al-Anon. Lois had friends and family near her as she peacefully passed away at her home on August 22, 2013. Survivors include her children: Dulcie (Karl) Martin, Phoenix; Timothy Driscoll, New York City; and Mandie Driscoll, Phoenix. Her grandchildren: Austin (Brooke) Martin, Jordan Martin, Calvin Martin, Christopher Melvin, and Jonathan Melvin. She was also blessed with three great grandchildren: Kenlee Martin, Peyton Martin and Mavrick Melvin. Her siblings: Kenneth (Virginia) Westbrock of Browns Valley, MN; David (Phyllis) Westbrock of Madison, SD; James Westbrock of Spokane, WA; Leon (Patricia) of Alexandria, MN and Cecile "Koko" (Glenn) Miller of Eagle Bend, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Wright, and her brother Wayne Westbrock. One can only admire the tenacity and courage that defined Lois. She faced adversity many times in her life and always, through grace and determination, managed her way through difficult times. She served as an example to many how to live life positively and respectfully. Her resilience in life was fostered by the industry learned on the farm with an independent spirit. She was force of conviction, honor and sincerity. She taught us, through example, how to live and ultimately die with dignity. She will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 31st at 10:00 am at the Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary 7924 N. 59th Ave, Glendale AZ 85301. Donations may be made to Al-Anon or Grace Hospice.
