Louis Simpson, a man of wit, warmth, and endless curiosity, passed away peacefully on November 12th surrounded by family. He was 93 years old.
A farmer at heart and an inventor by nature, he lived a life filled with creativity, laughter, and love. Long before sustainability became a trend, he repurposed old tires into fences and found ingenious uses for everyday items. From crafting "crazy pockets" to pioneering "toe socks," his inventive spirit was matched only by his sense of humor.
He was never without a joke on his lips or a prank up his sleeve. Whether playing tricks on friends or family, his laughter was contagious, and his presence memorable.
Born with deep roots in the coal mining tradition, he found clever ways to honor that heritage - even secretly digging full basements under not one, but two homes. His work ethic was steadfast, dedicating 38 years to United Airlines and serving his country as a proud veteran of the Korean War.
Louis met his beloved wife of 68 years, Gwen, while roller skating at Sports Haven in Bridgeville, PA and the two continued to enjoy the sport well into their later years. Together, they share four children, nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. In retirement, they explored the United States together, making memories and collecting stories along the way.
Louis will be remembered for his sharp mind, kind heart, and the laughter he brought to everyone lucky enough to know him.
In lieu of flowers, please direct donations in memory of Louis to Hospice of the Valley (https://www.hov.org/donate). The family asks that you honor his memory by sharing a joke, repurposing something old, or simply making someone smile today.
