Dad Leiss was an incredible man. He loved his wife and family dearly. He loved his country and did what he thought was right to make it better. He was always ready to lend a hand when he could. He loved to tinker and was never happier than when fixing something around the house or on the boat.

Over the last few years - while helping him downsize, I got to learn of some of his accomplishments in his career, his family and values.. He came up with creative solutions to problems and was a valued member of our military. He worked hard and would not hesitate to fight for what he thought was the best.

Although we approached things in different ways - I always knew he came from a place of love, integrity and a strong sense of right and wrong.

He was one of a kind and will be missed!

LTCol. Leiss was a great man who I admired as a cadet and member of the Weapons Drill team from 1987-1991. LTCol. Leiss taught me to be the best that I can be and that there is always room for improvement. He is a true hero who touched and shaped the lives of thousands of young men and women! Rest in peace LTCol. Leiss. Unitl we meet again!

I was a cadet in the Moval AFJROTC program from 1991-1995. LtCol Leiss was a tremendous factor in shaping young lives and encouraging everyone to do their best no matter what. He greatly influenced young men and women to sign into the military and serve proudly as he had done. When I was getting married in 1996, I was able to ask him and without hesitation asked me when and where and what time. My last memories of him were that night with his wife. Thank you for everything sir. Till Valhalla!!

Col Leiss, you impacted my life in many ways. Thru out High School 88-91, I along with many others spent all of our spare time in your presence. You taught me so many things, too many to list. You will be missed.

My prayers for the family. I was a cadet of the AFJROTC program and armed drill team. LtCol. Leiss was a blessing to many young men and women as a great role model and mentor. I salute you sir as you are off in that wild blue yonder.

I had the pleasure to know Joe and his family only for a few short years. He was family from day one. I will miss him dearly but will forever be grateful that he was a part of my life. Rowena, Beth, Amy and Joe I love you all and miss you, so sorry for the loss of such a great man.
