Lupe’s true passion was being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She also loved to pamper herself and spent many hours in the salon. Rarely would you see her without her hair done, and/or without wearing jewelry and perfume. She enjoyed getting gussied up for family parties and formal functions. Lupe found so much joy in music and was always on the dance floor. Lupe would sing and hum her favorite tunes throughout the day. Her many interests also included the theatre - she attended many plays with her family.
Lupe’s adventurous spirit took her across the world - literally! She loved traveling to faraway places such as Germany, Greece, Turkey, Italy, France, Alaska, Mexico and Hawaii. The time she spent with her friends on these many cruises were some of her fondest memories. She was never afraid to try new and international cuisines - except fish! However, fruit always brought a smile to her face, especially fresh figs.
Lupe had a compassionate heart and loved showering her family and friends with gifts, especially fresh flowers. She loved flowers and spent a great deal of time in the Peoria Community Garden in front of her home. Her favorite holiday tradition was making tamales and her famous salsa with her family during Christmas time. Most of all, she will be remembered for her love of photography, even though she preferred a disposable camera over a professional camera, she always managed to capture life’s precious moments.
Lupe and Johnny had four beautiful daughters, Anna M. Serna, Hortencia (Jimmy) Gutierrez, Diana (Ray) Vasquez, and the late Sylvia (Frank) Mendez who passed just days before her mother. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Robert, Tanya, Corrina, Roland, Alex, Michael, Daniel, Anthony, Gabriel, and Deandra, Jacob Mendez; Lupe had twenty - one great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and many other nieces, nephews and close friends.
The love Lupe had for her father was endless, she would always say, “My dad, my dad.” Lupe is now reunited in Heaven with her dad and mother. Our mother (nana) will be greatly missed by those who knew of her sincerity, love of life, and dedication to her family.
