Lyle was born in Dallas, South Dakota on April 26, 1936, but shortly thereafter, the family moved to Gering, Nebraska, which he recognized as his home town, where many relatives and friends still reside. Go Big Red.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Brenda (Smith); their sons, Curtis Orr and Brandon Orr; grandchildren, Kendyll and Wesley Orr; Lindsay Orr, mother of the grandchildren, siblings, Mary Ann Plummer, Richard Orr (Vonne), Donna Keller, Wanda Schmidt, and Keitha Bartlett; sister-in-law, Leah Orr, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Anna (Maier) Orr; siblings, Donald Orr, Norman Orr and Dean Orr.
Lyle graduated from Gering High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society, and also served as the editor of the school newspaper and yearbook. After receiving his B.S. degree from Colorado State University, he worked for several years with the Los Angeles County Engineers Office.
In 1971, he graduated from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, with a Master’s Degree Business Administration. Soon after being married, Lyle and Brenda relocated to Arizona where he accepted a position as Superintendent of Water Distribution for the City of Phoenix, which he served for 26 years. In that time, he also served a term as president of the Arizona Water and Pollution Control Association with distinction. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Lyle served honorably in numerous callings; he especially loved serving in the missionary programs and the youth programs, where he could participate with his sons. Lyle was devoted to his family and pets, and he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He took pride in his yard work, enjoyed taking camping trips with his sons, and having the family gather around the TV to watch sporting events. In later years, when he wasn’t playing with his beloved grandchildren, he could often be found reading the newspaper in his driveway, with his cat, and waving to all who passed by.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021, 11:00 AM, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 8840 N. 61st Ave. Glendale, Arizona. Viewing and visitation will begin at 9:30 AM in the Relief Society room.
