

Marian Welsh Buchanan, 94, of Sun City, passed away Feb. 1, 2025. She was born Nov. 6, 1930, to Samuel and Gladys Welsh in Lancaster, Wisc. She grew up on her family farm with her two sisters and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1948. Marian began working for the Grant County Sheriff’s Department before marrying David Buchanan in June of 1953. She and David moved to Phoenix in 1963. Her first job in Arizona was at Grant’s Department Store. She then worked at Arizona Bank before becoming the school secretary at Phoenix Union High School, West Phoenix High School and St. Mary’s High School until her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She and David loved hosting family gatherings on the back patio of their various homes. She also volunteered for many years in both the Phoenix and Sun City Elks/Emblems, Lodges 335 and 2559, as well as the Congregational Church of Sun City and at Royal Oaks Retirement Community, where she lived for six years. Marian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years, David, son James, as well as sisters Frances and Evelyn. She is survived by son Sam (Pam), daughters Ann Gile (Joe), Susan Hanson (Scott), 12 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Services will be held Saturday, March 22 at 11 a.m. at the Congregational Church of Sun City.
