

Mary Berg passed away July 24, 2014 in Peoria, Arizona. Mary loved golfing, fishing, jigsaw puzzles and had a wonderful sense of humor reflected in her distinct belly laugh. The former long-time Juneauite was born May 15, 1941 in Bismarck, North Dakota subsequently living in Park Rapids, Minnesota, before arriving in Haines, Alaska in 1954. Her family moved shortly thereafter to Juneau as she entered the 7th grade, and Mary remained a Juneau resident until relocating to Glendale, Arizona in 1996. She was a 1959 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School, worked for the Alaska Supreme Court, retired from the State of Alaska as a Budget Analyst, and owned and operated Secretariat, a legal secretarial business based in Juneau. She recently wrote "I enjoyed everywhere we lived and always had fun."
She is preceded in death by late husbands, John Eldemar, Jr., and Jan V. Berg; parents, Mary B. and Thomas H. Carpenter; and siblings Joan Krause and Cora Shaw. She is survived by her brother Thomas J. Carpenter of Petersburg AK; daughters Cheryl Eldemar of Juneau AK, Dianne (and Raymond) Smith of Falls PA, Katherine Eldemar of Juneau AK, and Stacy Eldemar (and Patrick Ripp) of Juneau AK; stepsons Christopher (and Amy) Berg of Vancouver WA, and Dustin (and Daranee) Berg of Nampa ID; 14 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
