Born October 13, 1926, deceased October 10, 2011, was preceded home by her husband John Leonard Devous, Jr., parents (Leo and Mirtle), and her brothers Howard (Nola, also deceased) and Warren (Nancy, still living) Dickens. She is survived by her sons and their wives Mike (Emily) and Chris (Julia) Devous, her grandchildren Michelle Devous, Michael Devous Jr., Matt Kruger, Brian Devous, Shay Devous, and Christopher Sean Devous, by her great grandchildren Joshua Trahan and Cheyenne Devous and by many nieces, nephews and friends. Mary was a devoted and lifelong servant of her God and her country, having retired from more than 25 years of service in the Veterans Administration as a nurse and nurse administrator. She also served in many capacities in the DAV auxiliary, the Ladies Auxiliary of Fleet Reserve Association, Women in Military Service for America and in her church. She loved nursing and caring for others, but likely loved her role as Mother and Grandmother most. She liked nearly everyone she met, and was widely loved. Mary was a reserved lady, with enormous inner strength, and with a smile that would light up any room. She was also possessed of a wicked sense of humor, and an eyebrow that when raised caused both of her boys to quickly "shape up." There will be a visitation Sunday October 16, 2011 from 6-8PM with a Rosary at 7PM at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary (7924 N 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ) and Mass at St. Louis the King Catholic Church (4331 W. Maryland, Glendale) Monday October 17th at 10AM, followed by a luncheon at the church, then burial services at the National Memorial Cemetery of AZ at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of the Valley (1510 East Flower St., Phoenix, AZ, 85014). Condolences may be offered at www.chapelofthechimesmortuary.com
