Mary Anastasia (Garcia) Monreal (known to all of her family as “aunt Mary”, 89, of Surprise, Arizona went home to heaven to join her mother, father, sisters and brothers, on December 5, 2019. Mary was born in Phoenix, Arizona on March 28, 1930 to Santos and Maria (Guiterrez) Garcia. Mary grew up in the Phoenix area where she attended school in the Dysart school district. Mary attended church for many years at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Goodyear and then Saint Theresa Catholic Church in El Mirage, Arizona. Mary had a career as an employee at William’s Market; stocking or as a cashier or whatever was needed. She also worked in the cafeteria for the Dysart School District as a cook/baker.
Mary’s passion and heart was her family. She loved baking. Her children shared memories of her cupcakes that she baked in ice cream cones; her luscious sugar twists and her upside down pineapple cake. Mary was also known for her love of holiday’s and how she decorated for each of them. Mary prepared homemade tamales and traditional food for Christmas each year. She also loved the New Years and being with her children and family to celebrate the New Year.
Mary leaves behind her children Jesus “Jay” (Gloria) Monreal and Deloris Monreal; grandchildren Christopher P. Monreal and Andres J. Monreal; great grandchildren Christopher S. Monreal, Nathaniel J. Monreal; and one great great grandchild Athena. She will be deeply missed by family and friends and forever loved. Preceded by her parents Santos and Maria, and her brother Johnny Garcia; nephew Johnny E. Garcia.
The Rosary will be held on December 13, 2019 at 11am at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary Garden Chapel, followed by a service at 1130am and graveside at Resthaven Park Cemetery Glendale, Arizona at 1pm. , under the direction of Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary.
