Mavis Del Theriot Armstrong, the 10th of 11 children born to Gaston and Edmee Theriot in Lake Charles Louisiana, passed peacefully in her Glendale home on March 28. She was the final living sibling of the Gaston Theriot clan. Raised in Lake Charles as the "southern belle" daughter of the owner of a chain of feed stores and grocery stores, she also lived in Massachusetts, Indiana, Illinois and Texas before returning to Lake Charles in 1970. She moved to Glendale in 1990 to be with her daughters and grandchildren, who were all in Arizona at that time. In Glendale she was a member of St. Helen Catholic parish and Arrowhead Country Club, where she was a regular member of a weekly group devoted to the friendly, but competitive, finesse of Bridge. She was preceded in death by her husband John Edwin Armstrong, her son John Powers Armstrong and her granddaughter Catherine Humphreys. She is survived by her daughters Mavis "Micki" O'Connor, Edmee "Punkin" Beale (Tom) and Catherine Humphreys; her grandchildren Shawn O'Connor, John Humphreys, and Michael (Mollie), Mark (Christina) David and Kevin Beale; and her great- grandson Mikey Beale. She may not have been the last of the southern belles, but there sure aren't many more like her. Rest in peace, mom. Services will be held at St. Helen Catholic Church (5510 W. Cholla St., Glendale) on Thursday, April 4 with a rosary at 10:00 am and funeral mass at 10:30 am.
