Michael C. Nava, born on June 18, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away at home on December 31, 2025, at the age of 75, surrounded by his loving family. Known for his wickedly warped sense of humor, Mike embraced a life defined by unconditional love, fierce loyalty, and a sense of adventure.
Mike spent his early years in Chicago as the youngest child of the late Mario and Elizabeth Nava. He was preceded in death by his siblings Eleanor, Thomas, John, and Louis. His enlistment in the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam and Korea tested even the strongest spirit. Through it all, Mike’s resilience carried him back home to Chicago. His journey later continued to Missouri, where he married and, through two marriages, became the proud father of his three beloved sons. He eventually settled in Arizona, where Cary and he made Phoenix/Peoria their forever home.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Cary, and his children: Mark (Glynnis) Nava, Chris (Mary) Nava, Joseph Nava, and Shelley (John) Sturgill. Mike's legacy continues through his grandchildren MaryLynn Nava (Stephen) Webb, Heaven Nava, Markie Nava, Coleman Cochran, Lee Marks, Emma Cochran, and Devyn Nava, as well as his great-grandchildren Everson and Emory.
Mike had a passion for discovering a good hole in the wall or those one-of-a-kind restaurants. He very much enjoyed his time spent "ca-chinging", or in other words, spending time at the casino. He loved traveling, whether by land or sea, and was always up for a long drive or a cruise. Nothing was out of the question. His family was the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Mike's humor and warmth will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Mike will be laid to rest privately at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale.
