Nelia T. Torres-Aguinaldo, MD (Maj., USAFMC, retired), 78, passed away peacefully at home in Lander, Wyoming, on Saturday, August 20, 2022, following a long illness. She was born on November 1, 1943, in Tanza, Cavite, Philippines, to Artemio and Felicitas Torres.
Nelia earned her medical degree in the Philippines, trained in pediatrics at Nassau University Medical Center in Long Island, New York, and practiced pediatrics in Bradford, Pennsylvania before settling in Glendale, Arizona with her family, where she lived for 45 years. Her mother Felicitas lived with them in Arizona until her death in 1999. Nelia enjoyed traveling the world, experiencing fine dining, listening to music, laughing together with her family and friends, and sharing her hard-earned medical wisdom freely with everyone who needed it. She leaned daily upon her faith in God throughout her life.
Nelia was preceded in death by her parents, sister Susan Yadao and brothers Ricardo (Bing), Artemio Jr. (Bobby), and Teodolfo (Teddy) Torres. She is survived by her devoted husband of almost 52 years, Edgardo (Eddie) Aguinaldo, MD, her daughters Marienel Aguinaldo (Lewis Kaufman), Bernadette Goyette (Joseph), and Regina Sweeney (Owen), sixteen grandchildren, and two brothers, Johnny and Hildeyardo (Jeff) Torres.
West Resthaven Funeral Home (6450 W. Northern Avenue, Glendale, AZ 85301) will host a viewing on Friday, August 26, 2022, starting at 4:00 PM with the recitation of the rosary at 6:00 PM. A Requiem Mass will take place at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church (4410 E. Southern Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85042) on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at 10:00 AM. Immediately after service, she will be interred in her family plot at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale. Cards and letters of sympathy may be sent to Edgardo Aguinaldo, P.O.
