July 25, 1942May 21, 2020

Patricia Jane (Burd) Hassell, 77, of Phoenix, Arizona entered into heaven on May 21, 2020. Patricia was born on July 25, 1942 to Raymond Edwin and Janet M (Compton) Burd in Rockford, Illinois. Patricia was the 1st of 8 children. Patricia and her family relocated to Arizona in the late 60’s to start a new life.

Growing up Patricia enjoyed swimming in the town pool and roller skating. She also loved baby-sitting and spending time with her friends. Patricia worked as a hostess and cashier for Smitty”s and I Hop restaurant. Patricia married and had 4 children. Patricia’s focus and whole heart was her children, grandchildren and surrounding herself with her family. Patricia also loved to dance to country music, but also loved oldies music. Later in life she loved going to the casinos and playing the slots. Once or twice per year she and her husband would take a trip to Laughlin to enjoy the ride and play; and once per month would frequent the local casino’s just to have lunch and gamble for a while.

Patricia leaves behind her husband Marvin L Hassell, children; Wesley D Madsen, Sheila (Duane) Harris, Jeff B Bellars, and Shelley R. Barbosa, siblings; Daniel Burd, Kathy Lundholm and James Pettit, 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Patricia is preceded by her sisters; Meryl Knight and Claudia Brown, and brothers; Walter and Steve Pettit. A visitation service will be held at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary followed by a burial at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.

God saw you were getting tired, And a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you, And whispered, "Come to me."

With tearful eyes we watched you, And saw you pass away Although we loved you dearly, We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating Hard working hands laid to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

Pat was always a good friend, always a kind word, especially when we talked about my son, her grandson Adam. She had sent a card when he was born signed grandma Pat. I still have the card.
She mentioned how much Adam looked just like his father, her son Wes.
I know she has entered Heaven, she was always a loving soul and my deepest sympathy goes to all her family. <3
Grandson Adam here with great-granddaughter Nevaeh.
We know she watches over all her family now, living forever in our hearts.

Wes, Sheila, Jeff and Shelley, I am so sorry for your loss. I will forever remember your mom and how I knew her as, Auntie Pat and visiting her in Arizona when I was little girl. Praying for you all.
