February 8, 1952 – February 19, 2021
Peter Bauer entered into his eternal rest on Friday, February 19, 2021. Peter was born in Two Rivers, WI on February 8, 1952 as the third of seven children to Reverend H.P. and Elisabeth Bauer. He was baptized into Christ on February 17, 1952 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and confirmed by his Father into the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church in North Platte, NE on May 29, 1966. After his family returned to Wisconsin, Peter attended and graduated from Manitowoc Lutheran High School on June 6, 1970. It was there that he would meet the woman who would become his wife. On June 17, 1974 Peter earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Dr. Martin Luther College.
Peter’s first divine call to teach was to East Fork Lutheran Grade School, where he taught 5th and 6th grade from 1974 to 1977. He loved his years on the mission, and his friends at East Fork were family to him. In 1977, he accepted a call to start a new grade school at Peace Lutheran Church in Santa Clara, CA. His first year, he taught all 9 grades in a one-room school.
On August 19, 1977, Peter married Bonnie Buth and together they began a new life in California.
In 1979, Peter was called to Grace Lutheran School in Glendale, AZ. He would continue to serve at Grace for 36 years, until his retirement in 2015.
Peter is preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Vernon Buth. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Bonnie, three children, Rachel Day of Evansville, IN (Kevin), Jennifer Luedke of Hartland, WI (Joseph), and Kevin Bauer of Tucson, AZ, five grandchildren, Sam and Drew Day and Cole, Noah, and Grace Luedke, his Mother-in-Law Velma Buth, four brothers and two sisters along with their spouses, and many nieces and nephews.
In his younger years, Peter loved woodworking and planning road trips (especially those involving a KOA campground). In retirement he enjoyed gardening, cooking, and visiting his children and grandchildren. His most loved hobby – always – was watching Nebraska football.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church. A visitation will take place immediately prior to the service at 10:00am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made the Grace Lutheran School Scholarship Fund (5600 W. Palmaire Avenue, Glendale, AZ 85301) or the Time of Grace Ministry (www.timeofgrace.org).

Mr. Bauer will always be Mr. Bauer to me! He was my 5th grade teacher and he really taught me how to roll up all my graded papers well at the end of the week, so well in fact, I was able to use them to hit the boys whenever they deserved it! So thank you!! Ha. More importantly though, he was Jenni's dad. I spent countless weekends at your home from gradeschool all the way through highschool and into college. Every single time I was over there he was ALWAYS working on his yard!!! :) We always knew where to find him when we wanted to ask him for food, money, or a ride. Haha. He was such a quiet man....but when he did speak, it was always hilarious! I always admired his calm, thoughtful, sarcastic disposition. To know him was to love and respect him. Anyone who was lucky enough to know him knew that his family and faith were everything to him. What a loss for us here on Earth but what a blessing for him to find eternal peace in heaven. My heart breaks for your family, but knowing how sad and shocked we are, shows how incredibly loved he was. You are all in my prayers and hopefully you will find peace in your unrest. Love to you all. Xo

As a neighbor for years, Pete was kind and considerate. We shared many conversations about gardening, our dogs and our love of walking. He was always willing to look after my pot bellied pig and turtles when I traveled.
Gone but not Forgotten, may your soul now Rest In Peace.

Dear Bonnie and family, we are so sad with Pete's passing. We will miss his smiling face and friendship over the many years as neighbors. Pete was a very special person, they don't come any better.

Mister Bauer was a loving and caring teacher, a role model for me in elementary school. One of my favorite memories is when he taught me to properly aim and shoot a basketball. He made it look so easy.
