Peter James Spallek

Peter Spallek will be remembered as a man whose life was rooted in love, guided by faith, and defined by his unwavering devotion to his family. Kind, loyal, and deeply compassionate, Peter had a gentle spirit and a lighthearted sense of humor that could brighten even the hardest days. He had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and cared for. Above all, he was always there—for his family, his friends, and anyone in need—offering wisdom, encouragement, and a steady presence.

On March 23, 1975, Peter married the love of his life, Maria Christina Spallek. Their journey together began at Maricopa County Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, where they met while working. From that moment on, their lives were intertwined in a partnership built on faith, trust, and enduring love. Together, they shared a lifetime of treasured memories, including celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary in Hawaii. Maria preceded Peter in death in 2020, a loss he carried with deep love and remembrance in the years that followed. In October of 2025, Peter took a special family cruise to the Yucatán Peninsula with his son, daughter, daughter-in-law, and son-in-law. He especially cherished the opportunity to explore one of the great Mayan ruins, embracing the experience with curiosity, joy, and gratitude as he spent meaningful time with those he loved most.

Peter’s character was evident even in his youth. At Carpinteria High School, he excelled both academically and athletically. As a football player, he proudly served as an offensive guard, demonstrating teamwork, discipline, and determination. In the classroom, his dedication earned him a place on the Honor Roll, and he graduated as Valedictorian of the Class of 1970—a reflection of his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.

His passion for learning continued throughout his life. Peter attended Northwestern University, where he earned a dual degree in electrical and bioengineering. He later pursued graduate studies in engineering at Arizona State University. Despite his impressive academic achievements, Peter felt a deeper calling on his heart. He answered that call by attending Concordia University in Irvine, California, where he became a Director of Christian Education. In 2007, he was ordained as a Reverend in the Lutheran Church through Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri—a milestone that reflected his lifelong dedication to serving God and others.

Peter’s faith was the foundation of his life. He was passionate about sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ and found great purpose in his ministry. Whether he was preaching, mentoring youth, singing in the choir, or simply offering a listening ear, Peter’s presence brought comfort, hope, and encouragement. His faith was not only something he spoke about—it was something he lived each day through his actions, his kindness, and his love for others.

Outside of his ministry, Peter found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. He loved following sports, especially NCAA and NFL football, and enjoyed the excitement and camaraderie that came with it. He was also an avid reader and researcher, always eager to learn more and explore topics that sparked his curiosity.

Family was at the very center of Peter’s life. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a joyful great-grandfather. He is survived by his brother, Andrew Spallek; his cherished grandchildren—Darek M. Gagon (29), Hannah A. Gagon (27), Kalub M. Spallek (27), Michael L. Spallek (26), Anthony P. Spallek (23), and David K. Gagon (22); and his precious great-grandchild, Mathew A. Spallek (4). His beloved wife, Maria Christina Spallek, preceded him in death in 2020. Each of his family members was a source of immense pride and joy in his life.

Peter also carried a deep love and appreciation for his Aunt Vera and her cousin Selma, who played significant roles in his childhood and helped shape the man he became. He held them close in his heart throughout his life.

Above all, Peter will be remembered for his deep devotion to his family and his passionate commitment to his faith. His life was a reflection of service, humility, and love—a life that touched many and left a lasting impact.

As we remember Peter, we take comfort in the promises of Scripture that he so faithfully shared:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” — John 3:16

Though our hearts feel the weight of his absence, we find peace in knowing that Peter’s faith has become sight, and that he is now at rest in the presence of the Lord he loved and served so faithfully.

He will live on in the hearts of those who remember him. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
