The tenth of fourteen children, he was born on August 27, 1940 in Carroll County, Mississippi to the late John Thomas and Donnie Hearn Martin. January 1950, the family moved to Greenwood, Mississippi where he attended school, became a star basketball and football player at Broadstreet High School.
Philip worked for Cudahy Meat Packing Company, as a meat cutter, in Wichita, Kansas, later transferring to Phoenix, Arizona in 1976. He attended Madison Avenue Church of Christ in Wichita and the past 20 years at Valley Church of Christ, Phoenix, Arizona.
Philip married Hazel Frison on December 26, 1969. They shared almost 53 years of marriage.
He is survived by his loving wife Hazel, and their blended family of seven children Roderick Martin, Maurice Martin, Angela Martin, Yvette (Gregory) Bradshaw, Donald (Annie) Gray, Janice Gray-Atkinson and Che’rie Barnes; his brother, Willie Lee (Hannah) Martin, sister, Donnie B. Williams, five grandchildren George Atkinson, Jr., Nathaniel Barnes, Zoe Barnes, Josiah Barnes & Angelina Barnes and a host of nieces, nephews, grand/great grand nieces and nephews, more loving family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Philip was preceded in death by eleven siblings Geneva Skates, Twins - Willie and William Martin, Taylor Martin, Sallie Pearl Martin, John Henry Martin, Twins - J.D. and L.D. Martin, E.C. Martin, Joseph Lee Martin & Esseck Anthony Martin, Sr., and godson Anthoni V. Styles.
Family and friends are invited for viewing on Friday, September 30, 2022 from 8-9AM at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W. Northern Avenue, Glendale. Funeral services will begin at 9AM with burial following in Resthaven Park Cemetery.
