Reg admired Ernest Hemingway as an author, but more importantly for his life experiences.
I have posted a photo  of Hemingway. When you compare that photo to Reg's obituary photo  you can see the similarities in the look and facial expression. 

I met Reg at Motorola where we both worked in 1985. He got me into the Motorola Rifle and Pistol Club and hunting in AZ. My Dad had stopped hunting, in Colorado where I grew up, by the time I was old enough.So, Reg was like a 2nd Dad that taught me much about how to be quite in the woods and why some rifle calibers are better than others, which he could talk about for hours. LOL. He was a year younger than my Dad, who passed earlier this year. I enjoyed many hunting trips for Javelina, Quail, Deer, and Antelope.  He was always generous and gave everyone Christmas presents when we met for a quail hunt one year. Of course it was a knife:-) We sat around many campfires and with John Bohmont on our hunts.  Reg always had a joke or two to tell around the campfire and they often had a Canadian element. For my first deer hunt, Reg was not able to go for opening day, so he set me up to meet Jeff and Sharon Jarvis and their hunt crew. He arrived a day later.  These are some of the best hunting experiences I've had. Reg was one of the best marksman I know. I did get better with practice, but could never compete with his talent on the shooting range. He always remembered me for the friends and family discount at Cabelas, which I greatly appreciated.  Years ago we had gone shooting early in the morning and he invited myself and Bob Carson, a long time hunting buddy of his, to stay and watch a movie which he had just gotten. It was titled "The Gods Must be Crazy". My wife and I were still a young married couple at the time and did not yet have any kids. So, I agreed to stay for a short while, before getting back home. 2 plus hours went by  like it was 30 minutes. We laughed so hard through out the entire movie I was physically tired. I shared the same movie with my wife and she laughed just as hard. Good Times. I will remember Reg at each hunt I go on in the future and his guidance he so graciously shared with me. May God's blessing be upon him.


Rest in peace old friend. We will cherish your memory.
