Richard Raymond Moehr was born September 13, 1936 in Akron, Ohio. His parents Richard John Moehr and Jeanette Marguerite Moehr worked at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Plant during his early years. He had one older brother, Lawrence John Moehr (Larry). When he was 9 years old, his parents entered the ministry and moved to Myrtle Point, Oregon. This began his affiliation with the Assemblies of God Church. He attended 6th through 9th grade in Myrtle Point. His parents put him on a train back to Ohio where he spent the summers with relatives. His parents accepted a church in Prescott, Arizona and moved the family there in 1952. He attended 10th and 11th grade in Prescott, Arizona. In 1954 the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona. His parents started a church in the Sunnyslope area and he graduated from Sunnyslope High School.
He was in church every week during the years he was growing up. That is where he met his wife, Shirley Ann Davis. They were married on February 22, 1956. They had three children together. Stanley Jean Moehr born October 1, 1959; Starlit Marie Moehr born October 2, 1960; and Stephen Richard Moehr born October 14, 1968. They began attending Glendale Assembly of God Church as young adults and remained at that church for over 20 years. Many lifelong friendships were made by the family from those years in the Glendale Assembly of God Church. His wife, Shirley, died on September 23, 1982. Richard married Helen Lee in 1983. They were married from 1983 until 1999.
Richard enlisted in the Air National Guard, along with his best friend, James Robertson, in June 1955. He served time abroad in France and Switzerland during this time. He was awarded honorable discharge in August 1962. Richard started working for Western States Telephone Company at the age of 17. The company changed names several times over the years, including Mountain Bell, US West, Quest and AT&T. He retired from AT&T as a supervisor in 1989. The following year, 1990, he took a job as bus driver for Peoria School District. He met his wife, Barbara (Bobbie) at that job. Richard and Bobbie were married in May 2004. The both retired from Peoria School District, also in May 2004.
The next 11 years were happy retirement years for Richard and Bobbie. They spent their summers at the family cabin that he built in the early 1980’s in Munds Park, Arizona. They enjoyed golfing fishing and entertaining many friends. They loved playing cards with those friends on the back deck while listening to Southern Gospel Music. They took many trips during the other parts of the year. Their favorite trips included Branson, Missouri; Gatlinburg, Tennessee for a Gaither Homecoming event; Richard’s childhood home towns of Akron, Ohio and Myrtle Point, Oregon. They toured the west coast and visited the Redwoods, and many other trips. The last summer at the cabin was 2015, when Richard became too ill to go any longer.
Richard passed away on October 22, 2020. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie, three children, Stan, Starlit and Stephen, three grandchildren, Nichole, Angela and Randy, and four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kellen, Dylan and Hayden.
