Poppo-Todd, as he was affectionately known by friends and family, was a kind man and spoke little of his personal accomplishments; therefore, we will.
He was a WWII veteran who was awarded for expert marksmanship. He gained his bachelor's degree from the Autonomous National University of Mexico in Mexico City and graduated with his master's degree from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College. He was fluent in four languages.
Beginning in 1958, he taught both English and Spanish for the Phoenix Union High school system, and he was tenured as an American Literature teacher for Maryvale Senior High until 1988. Additionally, he taught English at Glendale Community College. He retired in 1992.
Todd loved to travel. He made it to Europe four times, visited at least 30 different countries and most of the continental US.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, Claude and Mary Frances Todd-McBroom, and his brother Claude Lee McBroom, Jr., of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and his brother-in-law, Fred Scarbrough, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
He is survived by his sister, Pearl (McBroom) Scarbrough, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
He leaves behind his son, Gregory L. McBroom (Nikki) of Phoenix and his daughter, Paula T. Reiter (Garth Mikels), and his two grandsons, Mason D. Reiter & Taylor P. Reiter of Chandler, Arizona. Todd will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the In- Home Palliative Care Program - Team Happy Valley / Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St. Phoenix, AZ. 85014.
