Roger J. Fortier

Roger J. Fortier passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019 at The Palazzo Assisted Care Community in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 84.

He was born June 12, 1934 in Biddeford, Maine to Robert and Cecile Fortier.

He was a graduate of St. Louis High School where he excelled as an athlete. Later in life Roger was a long time member of The Phoenix Tennis Center. He enlisted in the United State Army in 1954 serving for 3 years. Roger enjoyed a career in the aerospace industry employed by General Electric in Daytona Beach, Florida. He took pride working on the Apollo Program. After the Apollo Program wrapped up, he had the opportunity to transfer to Phoenix, Arizona working for Honeywell. After retiring he worked part time along side his wife for Daytona Plastix. Watching football, playing pool with his father, enjoying the Sunday comic strip especially the Otis comic strip were always a favorite pastime.

Roger met his wife Claire Dorais at a five and dime store in Biddeford, Maine. They married in 1954.

He is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Cecile Fortier, a daughter, Catherine who died at birth.

He is survived by his wife Claire and daughter Cynthia Sauer, his granddaughters, Ariana Sauer, Angelina Sauer, Devan Sauer, his great-grandchildren, Vincent Nava, Ezra Yanez, all of Phoenix, Arizona. He is also survived by his brother Raoul (Ralph) Fortier and his wife Carol of Goodyear, Arizona and their daughter Cheryl Fortier of Peoria, Arizona and other nieces and nephews.

A memorial celebration will be held on Friday, February 15 at 3:00 pm at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W. Northern Avenue, Glendale, AZ.
