Born on July 10th, 1936, Rosa peacefully passed away on January 14th, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter West, and her first son, John West. Rosa is survived by her second son, Robert, his wife Lesley, their four children Lance, Kade, Julia, and Kiley, as well as her grandson Kevin, his three children Molly, Cedar, Finley, and one great-great-grandson Sam.
Rosa's life was marked by resilience and love. In 1945, she faced the upheaval of her homeland being annexed by Germany. Subsequently, Rosa endured the expulsion of her family by the Russians, with her brothers and father kidnapped. Over the next four years, she completed her primary education while working on a farm. Her brothers were eventually returned, and her father escaped Siberia with only a few other survivors.
In 1954, Rosa married Walter Mazorek and immigrated to Canada. The family later moved to Arizona in 1961, where they embraced a new life in the electronics industry. Despite facing challenges, including the loss of her son John in an automobile accident, Rosa remained resilient. She continued to cherish the outdoors, enjoying activities such as mushroom hunting, fishing, and traveling across the U.S., Canada, Alaska, and Mexico.
Rosa's steadfast love for Walter endured, even after his passing in 2004. She never sought another companion, finding fulfillment in her friendships. Over the last two decades, Rosa became an integral part of the Sun City community, forming strong connections with her German and other friends. She actively engaged in card-playing groups, faithfully visited the walking pool, attended German American activates and provided support to neighbors and friends.
Known for her German treats, Rosa delighted those around her with her Christmas cookies, cakes, eclairs, creampuffs, and more. In her final years, caregivers, friends, and neighbors reciprocated the care and compassion she had extended to others throughout her life. Rosa's sweet, innocent, and simple character left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A funeral service for Rosa will be held Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 North 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301.
