Rose was born August 16, 1936 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Adela and Crescenciano Quisote, both of Filipino descent. She graduated from Farrington High School (Class of 1954) and married Harry Theodore Contrades (“Teddy Boy”) in 1957 in Honolulu, HI.
Rose gave birth to five wonderful children, all of whom were born in Hawaii. Shortly after the birth of their fifth child, the family transferred to the mainland since Ted was in the Air Force. The family lived on military bases in California, Texas, and Turkey, before settling down at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, AZ.
Sadly, Rose’s husband, Ted, died at the young age of 36, in February 1972. Rose remained in Arizona and raised her five children as a single mom. Her children, and eventually her grandchildren, were always the center of her life.
Rose was a department manager at the Luke Air Force Base Exchange for several years. She then went to manage for more than 20 years Mim’s Farm, one of the last standing fresh produce roadside stands in Glendale, until the owners decided to sell the farmland.
Rose was a private person, but very much full of life to those who grew to know her. Her laugh was infectious, her smile gleamed beauty, and her caring nature never went unnoticed. Her small house, a few steps from the Catholic grade school and parish in which her children and some of her grandchildren attended, was always open to her children’s friends and families, especially after school and youth group events. To many, her house was a second home.
Rose is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Theodore Contrades; her daughter Francine Bebee Tomlinson; her half-brothers Paul, George, and Dioscoro (“Junior”) Villaruel; and her parents Adela and Crescen Quisote.
She leaves behind four sons: Harry Theodore Contrades, Jr., Jerome Christopher Contrades, Michael Bruce Contrades, and Patrick Neal Contrades; her brother Angel Quisote, and half-brother Edward Villaruel, Sr.; and 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A pre-celebration of Rose’s life will be held Monday evening March 26 at the Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary in Glendale, AZ from 6pm – 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church – Glendale followed by the graveside burial at Resthaven Cemetery in Glendale, AZ. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rose’s life after the burial.
