She was a loving wife to Tom Cabrera (deceased) and a wonderful mother to Berlinda Corpora, Gail Savarese (Steve), LeiLani Bontrager (Duane), Pedro Cabrera, and Thomas Cabrera (Holly). She adored her 23 grandchildren (Joshua Savarese & Tyler Burns Cabrera - deceased) and 25 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings Cecilia Bryant, Perfidio Chavez, Jr., Jeannie Alcala, Judy Anderson (Al), Larry Chavez (Irene), and David Chavez (Laura).
We remember her as a mover and a shaker; a woman who embraced challenges and could achieve anything she set her heart to, and a devoted wife and mother. She was awarded the prestigious Super Star award nationwide during her 35-year professional career with American Airlines. She was even asked to run for political office and had the backing and endorsements to support that, but ultimately declined to devote her time to her family.
In 1976 while working and raising five children, she saw that a Phoenix neighborhood was in shambles and went into action, which made her a well-known community organizer and news item. The results of her successful efforts can be seen to this day.
While juggling a career and motherhood, she always made sure we had a home-cooked meal on the table after a long day. She was an amazing cook, always opened her home to everyone, and made you feel welcome. Our mother was everything to our family and will remain extremely loved and incredibly missed.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church (4715 N. Central Ave.) on November 17, 2022, at 10:00 am with the rosary beginning at 9 am. Interment to follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery (6450 W. Northern Ave.).
