Scotty Russell passed on June 11, 2026, in Atikokan, Ontario, at the age of 77. Born October 20, 1948, in Lampman, Saskatchewan, Scotty brought a singular presence to every room he entered, one that was felt immediately and remembered always.
To know Scotty was to love him.. and if you knew him, there is a good chance he had a nickname for you. He had an easy way of making people feel included, greeting the world with open warmth and a spirited ease that turned strangers into friends.
In his younger days, Scotty’s life was filled with activity and camaraderie. From hockey to baseball, softball to curling, he threw himself into the joy of the game and the community that came with it. Music was another constant. He loved all kinds of it, and he played drums in a band, bringing rhythm, energy, and unmistakable character to the moments he shared with others.
Scotty also found pleasure in the simple comforts of everyday life: cribbage, fishing, movies, American Pickers, and The Price is Right. He was, in his own unforgettable way, fiercely supportive. He was steadfast and present, with a loyalty that those closest to him understood deeply. He had a joke or a song for every occasion, and if he knew what got under your skin, he would find a way to make it awkward. He was a tease, a flirt, a heckler, and the world's best bullshitter.
Scotty was literally one of a kind.
He will live on in the hearts of every person who ever crossed his path. Scotty is survived by his daughter Allison; granddaughter Lily; sister Candy; brother Sandy; nieces Carrie, Sherri, Heather, Sara and Brenna; nephews Scott and Drew; his best buddy Justine, as well as a huge friend group that he adored.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 115 O’Brien St, Atikokan, Ontario, Canada, on July 14, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
