Sophia Torres

Sophia Torres, beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away at the age of 62 in Glendale, Arizona. She fought a courageous battle against stage four lung cancer and departed us peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on October 26, 2023.

Sophia was born on October 27, 1960 to Genaro Mendez and Irene Leon-Mendez in Tempe, Arizona. The oldest of six she grew up in Glendale, Arizona with her siblings, “Sonny”, Sandra, Stacey, Sheila and Carlos. She worked several years as a cashier, where she brightened the days of everyone she came in contact with prior to her retirement.

In her free time, Sophia enjoyed baking and cooking, especially for her children and grandchildren. She also loved listening to her favorite music and had the most amazing sense of humor that could make just about anyone smile. Sophia had a kind and generous heart, always willing to lend help to those in need.

Sophia is survived by her father, Genaro Mendez, her mother, Irene Leon-Mendez, her sisters, Sandra and Sheila, her children, Monica,Johnathan and Rochelle, and her grandsons, Alexander, Adam, and Antonio. She was preceded in death by her brother, Genaro “Sonny” Mendez, her sister, Stacey Leon-Mendez, and her youngest brother Carlos Mendez.

A burial service will be held to honor and celebrate Sophia’s life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched. She was truly too beautiful for this earth and may she Rest in peace.
