Steven Clair Olson, 60, of Glendale, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019 in Glendale, Arizona. He was born on March 14, 1958 to the late Hubert and Doreen (Anderson) Olson in Moorhead, MN. He attended Raytown High School, graduating in 1976. He received his Bachelors degree from University of Maryland in 1989. Most recently he had completed one Masters degree from Webster University in Management and Leadership, and was working on a second Masters degree in Public Administration.
Steve spent most of his adult life in the US Army; a career spanning 37 years. He first joined in 1977 as an enlisted soldier. In 1987 he transitioned from active duty to the Army National Guard. In 1989 Steve joined the Army Reserves, where he was commissioned as a Warrant Officer. In 2011 he went back to the Active Guard Reserve, where he completed his career, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 on November 1, 2015. While in the Army Reserves and living in Phoenix , Steve also worked for the Arizona State Compensation Fund, as well as being adjunct faculty for Rio Salado Community College.
Steve was a member of various military associations, and was also an Eagle Scout, receiving that honor in 1972.
He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially his daughter Maddie. They loved to go bowling together, to the movies, doing pottery or painting, or taking trips to Disneyland or the Grand Canyon. Steve also enjoyed music, coin collecting, and doing projects around the house.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Madeline Olson of Colorado Springs, CO; brother Timothy (Karen) Olson, niece Rachel (Jane Kasharina) Olson and nephew Ryan (Cady) Olson; stepson Eric Andrews (Lisa) and stepdaughter Aubrey Trupp. Also many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Cheryl.
Memorial services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 N. 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ.
